The Giants were amazing. What's better than amazing? Pristine, incredible, dare I say perfect?
The straight up truth is I love an underdog story but most importantly, I love it when Is ee a team having fun while playing a great game.
I watched every pre-preseason game the Giants' played this season and I saw something in this group of players that intrigued me and kept me focusing on them. Let's face it, after the wheels started falling off the Blue Jays wagon, I think it's fair to say I gave up and turned my attention to the Giants. Their come back win from being down to Marco Scutaro standing in the outfield in the rain, head back, arms wide and mouth open left me feeling as if my fan loyalty was in the the right place. Marco said something in reply to a reporter's question about where his mind was going into the World Series final. He said "We worked hard to get here. So I'm just going to soak it all in and enjoy it."
Think about it.
The World Series is as big as it gets--its the Superbowl of the baseball world and he just wants to enjoy it? That is brilliant!
Not to take anything away from the Giants because with guys like Posey, The Panda Bear, Scutaro, Bumgarner and Romo (just to name a few) how can their game not be epic?
But come on! The Detroit Tigers just gave up. It was like Prince Fielder didn't even show up and their pitching? What happened? They swept the Yankees. They had three days' worth of rest they should have been knocking balls out of the park. But beside that, the Giants were on point with pitching with a very well rounded game but the Tigers just let it go. It was almost as if they didn't expect the Giants to be any good and when the Giants bit first and drew blood, The Tigers were too shock to do much of anything.
Sure, no team has ever come back from a 3 game deficit and win the World Series but that doesn't mean it's impossible. It's only impossible of you play like the Blue Jays and give up like the Tigers. That's when it is impossible. The Giants hit them hard and the Tigers lay down and played dead.
As happy as I am the Giants won, I am just as sad for the Detroit Tigers Fans. Why you ask? They didn't deserve the lack of heart the Tigers showed. They deserved a team that was going to push, fight, war until something happened. Or if they had to lose because Karma/fate/kismet said they had to, they would lose with a fight. They'd be battle scared and growling.
Still, I have to admit, watching Sergei Romo do the Gangnam Style was so worth it. I mean, the Giants beat the Tigers in a big way and looked good doing it.
